Heritage Cider - Taunton Cider

Few Somerset names carry as much weight as Taunton Cider, established in 1911 with roots reaching back to 1805, and by the 1980s the country's second largest cider maker. Then came the buyout, the sale to Matthew Clark, and in 1998 the closure of the Norton Fitzwarren site with hundreds of local jobs lost. When the trademark was let go in 2015, Heritage Cider spotted the chance to bring it back, buying the brand outright in 2023 along with its orchards and recipes.

The cider is made from heritage varieties of English bittersweet and bittersharp apples grown in the orchards that have long supplied Taunton Cider. No imported concentrate, no forced fermentation, no hurrying: Somerset fruit, local farmers paid, a small carbon footprint and money that stays in the area. The warehouse has been doubled in size for larger pressing and storage. Worth seeking out if you want to taste what the old recipes actually made.
