Godfrey's Pies are made at Seachange Devon's community cafe in Budleigh Salterton, developed by chef Neil Gibbs with an emphasis on quality ingredients and proper pastry rather than shortcuts. Seachange Devon is a health and wellbeing charity working across East Devon to help people stay active, independent and connected, and the cafe itself is part of that mission - built to reduce loneliness and isolation as much as to feed people well. Two of the pies, the Steak and Otter Ale and the Red Wine and Venison, have each picked up Gold at the Taste of the West Awards.
Fillings lean on Scottish beef, English poultry and vegetables from local suppliers, hand-filled rather than machine-made, in traditional British flavours. Marc Jobson, who heads up Seachange, has described them as a firm favourite with regular customers at the cafe, and they're also available to order online through the Godfrey's Pies website for anyone who can't make it into Budleigh Salterton in person.
