Farm shopCafe

Food hygiene rating: 4 out of 5

Started with foraging and worked up to climate-controlled growing rooms, this family operation on Warren Road at Dawlish Warren now produces in excess of 500 kilos of organic mushrooms a week. The 'Shroom Rooms' recreate the humid micro climates the varieties would find in the wild in Asia, using humidifiers, heaters, coolers, fans and careful watering, with no chemicals at any stage. Restaurants across the South West buy them, and you can look round the grow rooms yourself.

The cafe puts those mushrooms through home-made dishes in a good many guises, alongside real barista coffee and produce bought locally wherever possible. Next door, the farm shop carries cheeses, pies, breads, preserves, meat, dairy, fruit and veg, chocolates, sweets and gifts, mostly from Devon and the wider South West. Open 9am to 4pm daily. Book a table online, but note that bookings need confirming by the team, so watch your junk folder.
