When the village garage in Portesham closed, the Worsley family - who had taken on The King's Arms 200 yards up the road in 2012 - saw the site for what it could be. They opened a farm shop there in 2016, built on relationships with local farmers and producers already formed through the pub. West Dorset sits about seven miles from Weymouth and Poundbury, nine from Dorchester, and the village needed a shop like this.
The stock is Dorset-led but not parochial, with the best of national and international produce alongside, plus wines, ciders, beers and spirits. Staff are involved in sourcing and the shelves are audited regularly, so ask for a recommendation rather than guessing - they know their regulars and their producers. There is a cafe too, and a fresh produce delivery service. Open eight until five Monday to Saturday, closing at four on Sundays.
