Mid Devon farm shops can be a bit of a formality, a fridge of milk and a rack of jam. Not this one. On the edge of Copplestone, just outside Crediton, it runs seven days a week with a clear brief: champion suppliers from in and around Devon. It has picked up awards for the effort. When the village road closure had traffic backed up to the lights, the response was to fire up the grill and keep the doors open all day.
The grill is the draw, opening from 8am for breakfast baps to eat in the sun or take to work, with burgers and hot dogs later on. Wednesday is bike night from 5.30pm with the bar open, and Sunday brings the bar and grill for the whole afternoon. Inside, local milk and bread, Devon strawberries in season, a cake cabinet and greetings cards by local artist Karen Gutans. Fruit or veg boxes are £15, pick-up only, and worth ordering ahead.
