Two Drifters Rum

Distillery

Exempt from food hygiene rating

The idea began in Vancouver and landed just outside Exeter in 2019, when Russ and Gemma Wakeham came home to build a distillery from scratch. Their first date was a rum tasting, their honeymoon was St Lucia, and the name comes from Moon River, the song Gemma walked down the aisle to. Russ spent his career in carbon capture research; Gemma tells the story. It is a neat division of labour, and an unusually honest one.

The rum is made from scratch in an all-electric distillery, and every bottle permanently removes over 1.2 kg of CO2 - carbon negative rather than merely offset. The detail runs all the way down: lightweight British glass, sugarcane fibre labels, FSC natural corks, a fully compostable tamper seal. If the environmental claim sounds like marketing, read the science on their site first, then buy a bottle and judge the rum on its own terms.
