The Venus Cafe sits right on Teignmouth promenade, with sea views from most tables and the beach a few steps away across the road. It is part of a small local group that also runs a cafe at Broadsands near Paignton, and the food leans handmade and locally sourced rather than pre-packaged - stone-baked baguettes, Venus wraps made in three versions (chicken Caesar, ploughman's, and black bean and Moroccan hummus), and mains built around grass-fed Devon beef burgers and fresh seafood like whole mackerel and sardines. Greek loaded fries with kalamata olives and a proper Greek salad are a regular order, alongside coconut prawn and cod finger tacos.
There is a genuine effort on dietary range here - a full gluten-free menu including a gluten-free lemon drizzle cake that gets singled out in reviews, plus vegetarian and vegan options, and the packaging is home compostable. It opens daily from 9am to 7.30pm, food orders taken until 7pm, which makes it a solid stop for breakfast through to an early evening meal without needing to book. Staff get consistent praise for friendliness, and on a clear day the view down the estuary is reason enough to pick a window table.
