Lynton sits high above the sea on the edge of Exmoor, and the cooking here reaches rather further afield than that suggests. Dasha Moughton's kitchen runs on Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences threaded through local Devon produce, with an ethos of tasty, affordable, honest food. Days are for breakfast, coffee, lunch and something sweet. Evenings shift down a gear: slower, quieter, built around generous plates, wine and actually sitting at the table.
Breakfast spans Devonshire plates and simple butties through to Turkish eggs and sabich, or the Big Mezze Breakfast at £17.95 a head - breads, olives, home-pickled vegetables, whipped feta and za'atar, rose petal and strawberry jam, Greek yoghurt with homemade ashura cereal. Cream teas, mezze and small plates follow. Open Thursday to Tuesday, 9am to 4pm with the kitchen closing at 3pm, then 6pm to 9pm. Blackboard dishes are made in small numbers and go quickly, so go early.
