The Orange Hut

Street FoodLoaded Fries

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

The Orange Hut is exactly what it sounds like - a bright orange kiosk on Lifeboat Lane, down by the lower point car park on Teignmouth's back beach. It's run by Franco, a returning face in the town who previously ran an Italian restaurant in Teignmouth before it closed; locals were quick to welcome him back when the hut opened, several saying online that they'd missed his cooking after years without it.

The menu is proper Italian pizza, made fresh to order and served out of the hatch, with classic toppings like salami and mozzarella alongside a changing specials board depending on what's available that week. It's a stand-and-eat or take-away-to-the-sand kind of set-up rather than a sit-down restaurant, leaning hard into its beach-hut setting with seasonal opening hours built around the summer months and fine weather. Bubble gum lollies and other seaside treats sit alongside the pizza for kids on the beach, and the food hygiene rating from Teignbridge council is a solid five.
