Cheriton Bishop sits on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, and this is the village pub at the heart of it, run by Kate, Richard and Otis. There are refurbished bedrooms for anyone wanting to stay, a sunny garden, and a private hire room for gatherings. Dogs are welcome in both the bar and the garden. The Food Drink Devon Gold Award for Hospitality Excellence suggests the welcome is more than talk.
Head chef Matt builds an ever-changing seasonal menu around Devon suppliers including Wright Brothers, MC Kelly and Goosemoor, with sustainability and animal welfare guiding the choices. The fish and chips have a following, and Rosemary Shrager has reviewed them. Sunday specials run alongside the main menu, and a takeaway list is available seven days a week. Kitchen hours are 12 to 2.30 and 6 to 9 Monday to Saturday, 12 to 6 on Sunday. Flag dietary requirements when booking.
