The Old Inn & Restaurant

Up on the moor at St Breward, a village known for its granite quarries, roaming ponies and long views, this is Cornwall's highest inn. The bars are cosy and dog friendly, with sloping beamed ceilings and huge roaring log fires doing the work that no amount of decor can fake. There's a ramp into the restaurant and a fully equipped disabled toilet, and allergens are listed for every dish, in-house and online.

The kitchen's reputation rests on home-cooked food: legendary Moorland Mixed Grills, a mid-week plated roast, and a specials board that changes daily and runs past 25 dishes. The award winning Sunday carvery goes all day, with four freshly cooked Cornish meats from Button Meats carved by the chef and seasonal vegetables and trimmings to help yourself.
