Sitting within Coast View in Shaldon, and exclusive to it, this one trades on two things: the view and the cooking. The view is the sort the South Devon coast hands out generously and rarely gets old. The cooking is home-made, sold at prices that do not assume you are on holiday and feeling reckless. New enough to still be finding its stride, confident enough not to overcomplicate things.

Expect home-cooked food that has picked up awards, alongside a decent range of artisan beers, wines and spirits. The room is relaxed and set up for families, and dogs are welcome, so nobody gets left in the car. Go for an easy meal with the coast in front of you rather than a fussy occasion, and take a table where you can see out.
