The Blue Hut is exactly what it sounds like - a small blue kiosk on the river beach at The Point in Teignmouth, right on the water with views across the Teign estuary to Shaldon, where the passenger ferry crosses back and forth all day. Order at the counter and wait for the buzzer, which gives just enough time for a walk along the beach or to watch the boats before the food is ready.
The menu is homemade street food, cooked fresh to order rather than pre-made and reheated - breakfast burritos with chorizo and hash browns, South American-style choripan, Cajun chicken wraps, steamed bao buns with pickled vegetables and hoisin, and falafel wraps for anyone wanting a plant-based option. Seafood is a strong point given the setting, with crab sandwiches, prawn cocktails and platters built from local catches. It is open seven days a week, and reviewers consistently rate the quality of the ingredients and the inventive flavour combinations as much as the location itself.
