Food hygiene rating: 3 out of 5

A traditional seaside greasy spoon on Regent Street, a short walk up from the Teignmouth promenade, Seaview Diner deals in honest cafe food rather than anything fancy. The tables are fixed to the floor and the crowd is a proper mix of locals, holidaymakers and bus-stop regulars - the kind of place that has stayed exactly the same while everything around it changes. It has built up well over 300 Google reviews on the strength of that consistency.

The menu is classic all-day-breakfast territory: cottage pie, liver and onions, fish and chips, and a Big Breakfast with bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes and fried bread that comes with a mug of tea thrown in. Chicken breast with chips and peas is a straightforward lunchtime option for anyone after something lighter. Nobody comes here expecting fine dining - the appeal is the portion sizes, the prices and the sea air on the way in and out.
