NaughTEA but Nice

TearoomCream Tea

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

NaughTEA but Nice is a tearoom on Lower Brook Street, a short walk back from Teignmouth's seafront, done out with an eclectic, almost Alice in Wonderland feel - mismatched china, whimsical decor, nothing matching on purpose. It's old-fashioned in the best sense: loose-leaf tea served properly in a pot, a long list of varieties to choose from, and hot chocolate finished with cream and marshmallows for anyone who'd rather skip the tea altogether. Organic and fairtrade coffee covers the rest.

Everything on the food side is made on the premises. Scones come out fresh for the cream teas, with clotted cream and preserves alongside, and the cake selection changes daily between sponges, macarons and traybakes. Savoury options run to crustless quiches - ham, or cheese and onion - plus sandwiches and paninis made to order, with gluten-free versions available across the menu. Dogs are welcome, and the room can be booked out for small gatherings like hen parties, baby showers and christenings, which is as much a part of its trade as the daily cream teas.
