Home Bake Cafe opened on Regent Street in Teignmouth in May 2023, run by sisters Sharon Carpenter and Debbie Vallance with their friend Jayne. Sharon and Debbie had already spent more than thirty years running the Home Bake stall at Newton Abbot's indoor market, trading there on Fridays and Saturdays, and opened the Teignmouth cafe to reach a wider audience while keeping the market stall going alongside it. The town's mayor cut the ribbon on opening day.
The cafe's focus is squarely on homemade cakes, baked using the same recipes the sisters built their market reputation on, backed up by sandwiches, cream teas and coffee for anyone after something more than a slice. It's a small, family-run operation rather than a chain outlet, with the same faces behind the counter that customers would recognise from the Newton Abbot market stall, and cake is very much the reason to go rather than an afterthought on the menu.
