The Sidwell Street Bakehouse
- Makers
- Exeter
The Sidwell Street Bakehouse began in July 2019, when St Sidwell's Community Centre converted an office into a micro-bakery with a double purpose: training volunteers in the craft of real bread while baking sourdough to sell. At the end of 2020, crowdfunding from the community paid for a move to new premises on the street.
The sourdough is what most people come for, though the doughnuts have their own constituency, and there is a changing selection of cakes and savoury items to take away each day. It sits alongside Sid's Café and the cookery school in the same building, so a loaf can easily turn into lunch. Open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 3pm.
