The Rising Sun

PubBowlsGarden

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

The Rising Sun on School Street in Sidford is a proper community local, the sort of pub where regulars come back night after night to meet friends and it's still full and lively past half ten. There's a traditional skittle alley, a pool table and darts, and the pub fields teams in local darts and skittles leagues. The garden is a genuine draw in summer, and Sunday brings a well-known meat raffle supplied by the local butcher.

Three regular beers are kept well on the bar alongside a changing guest ale, and live music turns up every couple of months under the current landlord and landlady. Wheelchair access runs through a ramp at the back door, with accessible toilets inside. It's not a food-led pub or a tourist stop - it's a village local built around drinking, games and community, and it's earned a loyal following in Sidford and the surrounding villages on that basis alone.
