The Hatch

The Hatch is the pizza kitchen tucked inside the Maltings Taphouse and Bottle Shop at Tuckers Maltings on Teign Road, Newton Abbot - a working malthouse building that gives the whole taphouse its character, all exposed beams and old industrial brickwork rather than a purpose-built restaurant fit-out. The pizzas are wood-fired sourdough, made on site, and served Friday and Saturday to go with whatever's pouring at the bar that weekend.

The taphouse itself runs a serious range of craft beer on tap alongside a large selection of bottled and canned beer from around the world, so The Hatch's pizzas are built to be eaten alongside a pint rather than as a destination meal on their own. Vegan options are available on the pizza menu, and toppings change as the kitchen tries out new combinations rather than sticking to a fixed printed list. It's a short, focused operation - no table service, order at the hatch and they'll call you when it's ready, with curbside pickup available if you'd rather not wait inside among the taphouse crowd.
