The Farmers Arms

The Farmers Arms at Woolsery is a Grade II-listed former coaching inn and blacksmith's, parts of it dating to the mid-17th century, brought back to life in 2018 by Michael and Xochi Birch working with conservation architects. Settle on a stool beneath the stuffed fox head with a craft ale and homemade crisps, or duck under the ancient doorway for a table by the log fire; a light-filled modern dining extension runs off the old building.

Executive chef Ian Webber cooks unapologetically British food from the pub's own Birch Farm - rare-breed and heritage meats, just-harvested fruit and vegetables - topped up by foraging along the coast and through the woods for mushrooms and sea vegetables. The cocktails and soft drinks are built on their own syrups and cordials from the gardens and greenhouses, and a summer barbecue runs June through September.
