The Coastal Beaver

SandwichesBagels

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

The Coastal Beaver is the Exmouth outpost of The Common Beaver, the Exeter bagel shop, and sits on Tower Street about ten minutes' walk from the seafront. The idea carries over unchanged - seven types of bagel, made to order, with most of the sauces and fillings made in-house rather than bought in.

The New Yorker pairs pastrami with pickled cucumber, emmental, thousand island sauce and mustard, while the vegan brunch bagel goes marinated tofu, tomato chutney and broad bean guacamole. Coffee comes from a barista bar with the usual alternative milk options. The branding leans into the pun - "Dam Good Coffee and Bagels" - but the food itself is taken seriously, in a small, unfussy shop built for a quick sit-down or a takeaway on the way to the beach. It earned a five-out-of-five food hygiene rating shortly after opening, and arrived in Exmouth with a following already in place thanks to its Exeter sister shop's reputation.
