The Beer Engine

The Beer Engine is Devon's oldest working brew pub, housed in a 19th century coaching inn a stone's throw from Exeter in the village of Newton St Cyres. The bar welcomes drinkers, diners and dogs alike, with five home brewed ales on the hand pumps alongside local ciders, lagers, speciality gins, malt whiskeys and a long list of wines and spirits to work through.

Down the stairs the working brew house can be seen in its entirety, from a viewing gallery hung with Beer Engine memorabilia that tells the story of the pub better than any plaque would. There is a quieter dining room next to the bar for seasonal food and a more personal sort of meal, and in warmer months the pub extends into a split-level garden that catches the afternoon and evening sun.
