Tean's Thai Kitchen

Thai

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Tean's Thai Kitchen has built a strong reputation on Queen Street in Newton Abbot, run on what the owners describe as a genuine love of Thai food rather than a formula menu. Ingredients are sourced from the best suppliers they can find, locally and further afield, and the kitchen covers the full range of Thai cooking - tom yum soup, a proper spread of curries, seafood dishes and pad Thai noodles, with the pad num mun hoy goong (stir-fried greens in oyster sauce) singled out by regulars as one to try.

Staff are known for walking newcomers through the menu rather than leaving them to guess at unfamiliar dish names, and the restaurant takes party bookings and outside catering for functions and wedding receptions alongside its usual Tuesday to Saturday evening service. It's currently ranked among the top handful of restaurants in Newton Abbot on Tripadvisor, and the Saturday set menu in particular gets recommended as the fullest showcase of what the kitchen can do.
