Sandford Orchards

Sandford Orchards was founded in 2002 and works out of Britain's oldest working cider mill, in Crediton. The argument they make is a soil one: if you asked an apple tree where it wanted to be planted, it would ask for the redlands of Devon, and the cider is a tribute to that. Founder Barny has since been given a Lifetime Achievement Award for Services to the Cider Industry.

Only fresh juice from locally sourced cider apples goes in, and Devon Red is the one most people arrive already knowing. The licensed taproom opens every weekend with events, tastings and guided tours of the mill, and Katja, their single-varietal English sparkling cider, has just been relaunched in a 500ml bottle.
