Rull Orchard sits on Northdown Road outside Exeter, and the people who run it write about the place the way farmers do - hours spent pruning, chill days counted, blackthorn losing its grip on the hedgerows, the first prunus blossom of the year. The orchard is worked regeneratively, with nut trees planted into the woodland alongside the apples.
The ciders are blended from locally grown fruit and kept deliberately simple, with Glow and Moonlight the two to know. Perry is the growing interest: a trip to the Domfront region of Normandy, billed as a cycling and hiking holiday, was really an excuse to stand and look at perry trees.
