Preserve Foods opened its first shop on Gloucester Road in Bishopston in June 2018, a family-owned business built around making plastic-free, organic and vegan shopping affordable rather than a niche extra. It's grown since to four branches across Bristol - Bishopston, Bedminster, Redfield and Westbury - all run on the same model: bring your own containers and buy only what you need from around 500 dried goods and staples, including flours, baking ingredients, nuts, herbs, spices, oils, nut butters, tea, coffee, pulses and pasta.

Toiletries follow the same principle - bamboo toothbrushes, natural deodorants, shampoo bars and refillable liquid shampoos and bodywashes, all plastic-free or close to it. The Bishopston shop is open seven days a week, with a click-and-collect service across all four branches for anyone who can't get in during the day.
