Planting vines in Cornwall still sounds like optimism to some, but the East Looe Valley has a sunny, sheltered aspect that makes the argument better than any brochure could. The vineyard was established here in 2008, on a site in South East Cornwall chosen for exactly that reason, and the ambition attached to it has stayed refreshingly unfussy: local artisan wine, made properly, without the hand-waving that so often surrounds English viticulture.
The aim, in their own words, is simple - to create high-quality local artisan wines. That is the whole proposition, and it is a decent one. If you are anywhere near Liskeard and curious about what Cornish fruit does in the glass, it is worth checking directly with the vineyard for what is currently available and whether visits are possible.
