Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

The Hiron family have been in the meat trade since 1890, when Fred Hiron ran a coffee shop in Hackney that doubled as the place locals bought their meat. He opened the first Hirons butchers in Bow in 1920. Five generations on, Scott Hiron-Snow runs the Bideford shop, having taken the reins from his father.

Beef comes predominantly from the family's own farm, the rest from farms nearby they know and trust, and the shop still breaks down whole carcasses - uncommon these days. Free range, gluten free and pasture-fed options are all there, and the advice across the counter is half the reason to go. Local delivery and click and collect follow once you know what you want.
