Fish on the Quay

FishmongerSeafood

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Fish on the Quay is a traditional wet fish shop next to the marina in Exmouth, and the last fishmonger left in the town, sourcing its stock directly from local commercial fishermen. In 2025 the National Federation of Fishmongers named it the best fishmonger in the South West after multiple visits assessing service, fish quality and creative products. Alongside the counter of fresh fish, it sells seafood sandwiches, fish pies, salmon quiche and a seafood box with large prawns, plus frozen ready meals like crab and lobster mac and cheese.

One of its more talked-about products is the "Docker egg" - a scotch egg made with fish instead of sausage meat - which was featured when the BBC filmed the final episode of the Hairy Bikers there. It's as much a destination for visitors picking up a seafood lunch to eat by the water as it is a proper fishmonger for Exmouth locals doing their weekly shop, and the combination of quality produce and genuinely local sourcing is what keeps its reputation ahead of the supermarket fish counters nearby.
