Capels

Fish and ChipsTakeaway

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Capels occupies a Victorian building from 1899 opposite Exmouth's rail and bus station, and it's been serving fish and chips since 1949. Emma Amelia Capel bought the business in 1956 for £4,000, and the family name has stayed on the shopfront ever since through a recent refurbishment that gave it spacious seating and a calmer, cafe-style feel.

Alongside the classic cod and chips there are pies, pasties, burgers and sausages, all cooked with fish and potatoes from sustainable, MSC-certified sources. The restaurant holds a 5-star Food Hygiene rating and is air-conditioned, with gluten-free options available for anyone who needs them. Eat in or take away - Capels is a short walk from the seafront and station.
