Bloaters of Sidford

Bloaters of Sidford is a fish and chip takeaway on Church Street, near the car park in Sidford, run by Anne Xu and her husband Zack Yu since 2015. It was named Sidmouth Herald's Fish and Chip Shop of the Year in 2025, and locals rate it as some of the best fish and chips in East Devon.

The classics - cod, haddock and plaice - are cooked fresh to order, alongside prawns, crispy calamari and scampi for anyone after something other than fish and chips. Portions come large and generous, good for sharing, and the fish is fresh and locally sourced rather than frozen-and-fried. It's popular enough that a wait for your order is normal at peak times, which is usually a good sign at a chippy - come prepared to queue rather than grab-and-go.
