Bathford Village Shop & Cafe on Bathford Hill is a community venture, run as a cooperative with volunteers doing much of the café work, and has been serving the village for around two decades. Profits go back into keeping it running rather than to an owner, and it doubles as a proper village hub - Duke of Edinburgh volunteers help out here, there's a Monday craft group and a Thursday Mahjong meet-up, and the shop offers dry cleaning, alterations and a postal counter alongside the food.
The café does filled rolls made on the premises, cakes and biscuits, and a proper pot of tea or decent coffee, with breakfasts and lunches gradually being added to the menu. The shop next door stocks bread from Hobbs House, dairy from Ivy House, eggs from Warleigh Farm, and beer from Bath Ales and Box Steam Brewery, plus a refill station for cleaning products and free village home delivery. It's dog-friendly, has a book and jigsaw library, and is open seven days a week from early morning.
