Baskervilles Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Shop

Moretonhampstead sits where the road climbs into Dartmoor, and it gets its share of walkers, drivers and people who simply live there. Baskervilles works for all of them, open seven days a week in the middle of town with an ice cream counter at one end of the offering and a coffee machine at the other. It is the sort of place a town needs rather than the sort it shows off about.

The ice cream range is genuinely large and keeps growing: apple and cinnamon, black cherry and ricotta, sorbets, vegan options and sugar free versions, plus lollies for dogs. Three flavours took gold at the 2023 Taste of the West awards, which makes Biscoff, Honeycomb and Cherry Ripple the sensible starting point. Coffee is local, hand roasted and organic, with teas and hot chocolate for anyone coming in off the moor cold.
