St Anne's Well

St Anne's Well sits on Well Street, a few minutes' walk from Exeter City's St James Park ground, and picks up a matchday crowd alongside its regulars. It's run by Sharon and Matt, who took the pub on more recently and kept its identity as a proper backstreet local rather than smartening it into something else. Food is served alongside the drinks rather than treated as an afterthought, and the bar stocks well-kept ales, ciders, lagers, wines and soft drinks.

There's a pool table, darts and screens for the football, plus a spacious beer garden for when the weather allows it. Dogs are welcome throughout, and the crowd is a genuine mix of students, long-time residents and match-day sports fans rather than one type of drinker. Opening hours run from 2pm on weekdays and from noon Friday to Sunday, with last orders around 11pm on Sunday and midnight the rest of the week.
