King Kebab is a family-run takeaway at 23 Cowick Street in St Thomas, on the west side of Exeter across the river from the city centre. It covers a wide spread of ground for one counter: charcoal grills and Turkish dishes alongside a full pizza and calzone menu, so a lamb or chicken doner, a shish kebab or kofte sits on the same menu as a Margherita, a Double Pepperoni or a Hawaiian. The King Doner Pizza and the Calzone Doner both fold the kebab and pizza sides of the menu into one dish, which says something about who they're cooking for.
A doner wrap runs £8.50, and the party pizza deal - two 10 inch or two 12 inch pizzas - is £35, alongside burgers, omelettes and kids meals for anyone not in the mood for grilled meat. It's open late, from 5pm to midnight through the week and to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, which puts it firmly in last-orders-after-the-pub territory. Collection or delivery both run through the shop's own site as well as Just Eat and Uber Eats.
